For over twenty years, I’ve worked alongside individuals and communities navigating homelessness, mental health challenges, and addiction across the Maritimes. For the past fifteen years, Prince Edward Island has been home, a place that shaped both my professional path and where I put down roots. My work has spanned frontline support to leadership roles, including a decade with the Canadian Mental Health Association, where I supported community-based programs, teams, and individuals through complex and crisis situations. At the heart of this work was dignity, connection, purpose, empowerment and hope.
Over time, the heavy weight of constant crisis response, decision making fatigue, long hours, and limited resources began to wear on me. At the same time, I experienced significant personal upheaval, a painful separation and unexpected life transition that left me emotionally depleted. The combination of professional burnout and personal loss gradually impacted my own mental wellbeing, bringing increased anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, and a growing reliance on alcohol just to keep going. I was running on empty and knew I needed professional help.
The decision to seek in-patient treatment became the beginning of a healing journey. Through deep personal work and recovery, I found peace, clarity, self-connection and the return of joy. I returned to my leadership role feeling grounded, but something had shifted in me. I knew I wanted to build a life that honoured creativity, community care, and wellbeing without sacrificing myself in the process.
Throughout my life, I have always been a maker. Thrifting, repurposing, and sewing have been long-time passions. Creative practices brought calm, comfort, inspiration and expression. Those creative moments grew into something more. I realized I wanted to build a business that honoured sustainability, creativity, community care, and personal wellbeing.
Golden Hour Goods grew from coastal living, nature’s healing, vintage textiles, recovery, and a belief that what we wear can hold meaning. Each piece represents renewal of materials, of mindset, and of possibility. I hope to inspire a life that leaves space for healing, joy, play, and connection.
